Neilly Group (NG) were engaged by Reef Catchments to develop an options assessment for remediation measures to address stream bank erosion in Cherry Tree Creek, located 52km south of Mackay.

The assessment identified areas of erosion and sedimentation by undertaking a comparison of survey data collected in 2009 to survey data collected in 2018. It was determined that Cherry Tree Creek had undergone significant bank erosion over this period. 2D flood modelling was also undertaken to provide an understanding of the hydraulic conditions of Cherry Tree Creek and to identify hot spots that will be prone to future erosion. The accompanying figures show the survey comparison as well as velocity mapping produced from the 2D flood modelling.

It was identified that the best solution would be a combination of bank battering and rock armouring of the toe of bank to prevent further erosion of at-risk areas.
